Winter Energy Boosters

The dark gray days of Winter can really zap your energy, leaving you lethargic and unmotivated. Here are a few ideas to combat Winter fatigue.

Stay hydrated. This seems like another no-brainer, but it’s true. Sometimes water can do the trick more than a cup of coffee! I know that sounds like a joke, but give a nice cold glass of water a try in the morning instead.

Eat at regular intervals. After the holidays are over many of us start cutting back on our calorie intake by skipping meals or cutting out carbs. It is imperative to eat regularly and eat well balanced meals to have the energy to keep going. Something small and filled with protein should work. Make sure to avoid refined sugar and flour snacks from the vending machine. Avoid the drive-thru, and incorporate more omega-3 fatty acids, which promote brain and heart health, into your diet.

Take a vitamin. A B-complex vitamin is associated with energy levels. Taking one of these in the morning will help you with stress resistance and mental performance.

Stretch away stress. Stretching increases the circulation of blood and oxygen to your muscles, which can help improve energy levels, increase your sense of vitality, and encourage waste removal from your body’s tissues.

Exercise. Getting a regular amount of cardio will help give your heart a workout and send energy throughout your whole body. Plus, the fresh air from a good run does us some good. If you’re tight on time, a quick walk can work wonders. Even parking at the end of the lot will help.

Laugh. When we laugh, our body undergoes physiological changes. Laughing boosts your energy and bolsters your immunity, burns calories, and enhances your mood. Laughter even causes us to increase our rate of breathing, which sends more vital oxygen to tissues.

Sleep it off. Rest is your recharger. With too little sleep, your system just won’t work right. Your body’s temperature rises, as does your appetite and your levels of stress hormones. Aim for seven hours a night, and you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish every single day.
