Finding and choosing the right hair salon for you.

Choosing the Right Salon for YOU!

Education is truly the first step to making any good decision. You do it before you buy a house, car, or anything else. Why not before you invest in yourself?

Here are a few things to consider when choosing a salon.

Value = Quality + Service + Price

The old adage is true. “You get what you pay for”. This is especially true when choosing a salon. If you want the best services you should choose a salon because of the overall value you receive, NOT the cheapest price. It is impossible for any business in any industry to offer the cheapest price, have the highest quality, and provide the best service all at the same time. You can receive high quality and super service, but they come at a higher price. Salons have a lot of overhead, employees, products, leases, continuing education, etc. If their prices are “too good to be true”, then they are cutting corners somewhere. Whether it’s in the quality of their services and products, or the customer service they provide, something has to suffer to give you those low, low prices. Total value is all three: Quality, Service, and Price.

All salons are NOT the same.

Every salon is different. Each salon has different services and different employees who have unique talents and specialties. Styling is a combination of talent, experience, and skill. It’s truly an art form. Most people don’t realize the time and money the best stylists put into developing their art. It takes workmanship and talent to create quality styles, and an eye for color and dimension to design a total look for an individual.

Look for a salon that GUARANTEES their services.

All reputable salons guarantee their services automatically. This means if you aren’t happy they will attempt to “fix” whatever it is for free, and if you still aren’t happy, they will return your money.

Communication is the key to picking the best salon for you:

Ask what type of training and experience the stylists have.

Ask how much time they will spend with you before the appointment.

Ask to see pictures of their work.

Ask to read testimonials of past clients.

Ask if the salon has a guarantee.

This will help you to decide if they are the best salon for you.

Once you find a good salon, you must be loyal. If you flip-flop from salon to salon, it is difficult to achieve and maintain great hair because it is always a work in progress. If you feel ready for a change in stylist, visit another stylist in the same salon. They will have all of your history and records at hand. Any good salon will work as a team and not see each other as the competition.

And last allow enough time for your visit. You should be able to relax and enjoy your experience. It’s all about YOU! You deserve it, it’s your time to treat yourself – don’t rush it.

  1. My mom always cut my hair growing up, but now that I don’t live near her I need to find a beauty salon to go to! I like how you point out that “you get what you pay for” is usually true when it comes to a salon. I want to be happy with the haircut they give me, so finding a salon that has higher, yet competitive prices will probably help me narrow down my choices.

  2. My wife was telling me that she wants to find a new salon to take care of her hair, but we didn’t know how to choose the right one. It’s interesting that you say to ask for pictures of their work. It would be nice to see what they will be able to do for you in the end.

  3. I’ve been looking for a new hair stylist that I can go to consistently to have my hair taken care of. I’ve kind of bounced around a lot with different salons, so I usually get a new hair stylist every time, which means I get really hit and miss haircuts. If I could find a good hair stylist, where I get what I pay for like you said, I think I would be much happier! Thanks for the info!

  4. I recently moved to a new area, and am looking to get my hair colored. It’s important that I choose a salon that I can trust to care for my hair. Like you said, I will want to look for a salon that guarantees their services automatically. Thanks for sharing!

  5. I really appreciate that you mentioned that it’s important to be able to ask the salon questions, and maybe even see pictures of their work. Sounds like it could be beneficial to come with a list of questions you want answered. Could be a great way to see what the personality of the workers are like. Plus, it would be pretty cool to see what their portfolio is like and see all the unique things they have done in the past.

  6. After moving into a new neighborhood and area I no longer have a hair salon to go to and want to find one soon. I really liked that the last place that I went to was good at communication. It was nice to see this as one of the things to look for in a salon to be able to tell if it is the right fit.

  7. Quality, service, and price is equal to value, which is a fact. Many customers want to have a “well-taken-cared-off hair” after leaving a hair salon but does not want to pay extra money for the services provided. Good quality service also has a good price, hairdressers are professionals who can make a difference on how you look.

  8. I love how you mentioned that there is a lot of differences when it comes to the salon, such as the quality of the art and artists. That is quite a great advice to have as my wife is currently in the look for a salon at our new place for around a week now which made me puzzled as to what she was looking for. Now that I know this, I would be able to help her locate a great salon near our place that would suit her taste and needs the best. Thanks!

  9. My wife is looking for a new salon ever since moving, but she is having a hard time finding one she likes. I like your point about how you should choose a salon that guarantees their services. Being able to get a refund or a free fix would go a long ways I bet.

  10. I like that you point out that each salon offers different services. My sister and I are wanting to find a new salon that we can go to every so often. I’ll have to do some research and find the best salon in my area.

  11. I recently moved to a new area and I’m looking to find a hair salon. It’s important that it is affordable and qualified. Thanks for the suggestion to look at the scheduling book to see how much traffic they have in their salon.
