Lovin’ the Grass (Wheatgrass that is…)

There have been many health regimens, products, foods, and vitamins that have been introduced in the past few years. All of them are designed so that people can live longer and healthier lives.

One of the most interesting health trends has been wheat grass. It has been popping up in juice/smoothie bars and in health drinks everywhere. Wheat grass is exactly what its name says it is…grass.

I’m sure you are wondering why anyone would willingly drink grass, but as it turns out, drinking a 2 ounce shot of fresh-squeezed grass everyday is one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself…and this is true of every grass.

You could squeeze up some of the lawn and drink it every morning but it will not taste that great, and this is because wheat grass was chosen because it tastes the best. If you have ever tried wheat grass, you might be thinking that wheat grass is the worst tasting thing in the world, and you are probably right if you had a shot made from wheat grass that was not harvested correctly.

To draw the best tasting shot of wheat grass, it has to be cut as soon as the blade of grass splits in two. All the grass should be harvested daily because every day the grass grows after the proper harvesting point; it ages rapidly, which causes it to taste badly.

Another thing that makes wheatgrass not as tasty as it could be is using the grass over and over again. That means letting the grass grow again after cutting it and using the second batch. It will make the wheatgrass shots drawn from this crop much more bitter, plus it loses about half its nutritious benefits.
