5 Myth Busters
1. Cutting your hair will make it grow faster.
False – The only thing that can speed up hair growth is healthy diet and exercise.
2. Hair color can change your hair texture.
True – Any chemical put on your hair can change its texture. This will only change existing hair and not new hair growing in. Keeping this in mind it is important to use the right hair care products at home and leave the chemicals to the professionals.
3. Hair can become immune to products.
False – typically if you have been using a product for awhile and feel it’s no longer working it’s due to change in climate or could be build up on the hair. Use a clarifying shampoo once a month to clean the hair of built up minerals and elements. Changing your products with the season is good. Some products are designed to repel humidity while others bring in moisture. Treating your hair’s needs to the changing seasons will make for easier styling.
4. Waxing or shaving hair will make it grow in darker and thicker.
False – The reason some think the hair is darker and coarser is due to method of removal. Anything that removes the hair by cutting, shaving, or scrubbing will cut the hair at a blunt point leaving the hair feeling coarse and the blunt end appearing darker. Other methods of hair removal, like waxing, laser, and electrolysis, can make the hair grow in finer.
5. Washing your hair in cold water will make it shiner.
True – The cuticle layer of your hair dictates the shine and smoothness. Cool water causes the cuticle layer to close resulting in shiny hair.
